Turntable Untapped: Thin Lizzy, “Jail Break” – Odell Brewing, 5 Barrel Pale Ale

As mentioned on the latest podcast (if you haven’t listened to it yet, get to it!), there are a couple of new BDWPS projects coming this week. I’m proud to announce the first development, a new ancillary blog entitled “Turntable Untapped”. Posts on the new blog, located at TurntableUntapped.wordpress.com, will be linked here on BDWPS. The new blog’s purpose is to combine my love of music with another passion of mine – craft beer. One of my favorite things to do on a lazy Sunday is to crack open a finely crafted micro-brew, put a classic album on the turntable, and lay down on the couch to enjoy the combination of the music and beer. Over the past few years, I’ve had fun trying to pair my beer choices with albums, and I’ve had the idea for a beer/music pairing blog series brewing for a while now.

I decided to put these entries on a separate blog because I didn’t feel that they would necessarily fit in with the rest of the content I do here on BDWPS. I will continue to link new entries here, but BDWPS remains my main focus. Turntable Untapped is something I’ll play around with when I feel inspired. Plus, I feel this new page might attract a different audience than BDWPS, and so I wanted to keep the two entities apart.

If the idea of pairing beer and music sounds dumb to you, I kind of agree. At the same time, I found that there are other bloggers exploring this idea, and Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Brewing has even hinted toward the idea of writing a book about this exact topic. My posts on Turntable Untapped are intended as quick little write ups that are to be read for fun. Take of it what you will.

For my first post, I paired Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak with Odell Brewing’s 5 Barrels Pale Ale. Enjoy, and if you get a chance, raise a glass for the new endeavors being taken on here at BDWPS. Cheers!
